About ACM@IGDTUW

ACM Student Chapter at IGDTUW is the technical society at Department of Information Technology, IGDTUW. It is student driven society where active student members organize plethora of events during the semester.

While most events are organized by students, sometimes particularly during summer/winter breaks, faculty driven workshops are organized, and this Summer Workshop-Cum-Internship 2021 is one such event.

Purpose: To augment conventional curriculum based learning by exposition of essential technical topics keeping an emphasis on project development with "learning by doing" approach.

Data Science and Machine Learning Summer Workshop

The ACM student chapter IGDTUW conducted a Summer Training workshop for all the students across all the branches and years on the topic Data Science and Machine Learning. The training was conducted from made 15 May 2020 to 30 June 2020. Topics included writing program in Python, collecting data and visualising it by plots and graphs followed by supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms of machine learning including the usage of neural networks. For one month all the candidates were taught above topics and then in the next two weeks of the summer training program they were assigned with mentors and projects which they had to build under the guidance of the provided mentors. There were Keynote sessions by Industry Specialists and Professors working in the field of Machine Learning.

Around 60+ students from different disciplines of IT, CSE & ECE across different years (first years, second years, third years) from IGDTUW and many other colleges particated in the workshop. This is the first time such a fully-virtual workshop has been organized by Chapter and it was loved by our particiapnts.

ACM Summer Workshop Project Challenge

After the two weeks of project building the students had to showcase their work virtually.

This presentation was in the form of a competition where the prizes were in the field of:
1. Best in overall concept
2. Best in Data Collection and Analysis
3. Best Project in Deep Learning

The presentations were judged by the mentors themselves. There were certain projects which were even taken up to higher level of research, after the completion of the workshop, giving the candidates great exposure of research field.
